A newly published study in JAMA followed 131,821 individuals for up to 43 years and reported an important finding for brain health.
The study led by Yu Zhang and colleagues found that higher caffeinated coffee intake was associated with nearly a 20% lower risk of dementia.
Key findings:
- ~18% lower dementia risk for the highest vs. lowest coffee intake
- Optimal intake: about 2–3 cups of coffee per day
- Tea (1–2 cups/day) showed similar protective associations
- Decaffeinated coffee showed no significant benefit
In other words, caffeine—or compounds associated with caffeinated beverages—may play an important role in brain health.
What I find fascinating is how this aligns with what we are learning in AI-driven longevity medicine.
